A Missed Opportunity, and a Hidden Gem

Today, 81 years after the famous failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler and overthrow the Nazi regime, I visited three monuments and two museums. Gedenksort (memorial site) Rummelsburg, on the grounds of a former Nazi prison for a-socials and former DDR prison, I found to be a good example of a missed opportunity when it comes to memorials. It's supposed to have an app that tells the story of the buildings, but the app does not appear in Google Play Store on my cellphone (though it does appear on my laptop), but even with a working app I doubt if I would bring students here. The site is neglected and confusing.

From Rummelsburg, I traveled to Museum Berlin-Karlshorst, one of the better, though less known, Berlin war museums in my opinion. This is where the final capitulation of Nazi Germany was signed. Besides the hall where that ceremony took place, the building has a really good exhibition on Nazi Germany's war against the Soviet Union, and of the struggle of the Red Army against - and then in - Germany. Outside, you can see original Soviet heavy weaponry.
